Community Preparedness - Charlotte County community members, this is your one stop shop to public health emergency preparedness information and planning. We are building a comprehensive resource for your convenience.

Emergency preparedness is not something that we should give thought to when hurricane season is rolling around. Instead, it should be everyday as an emergency situation can happen at any time. Let us step away from the global scale for a moment and think on a more personal level. There are a number of ways that a person can be prepared and even prevent disaster from happening in his/her life.

Keeping in mind and enforcing daily safety habits, educating children on not talking to strangers, practicing fire safety, and even taking an exercise class are all ways to practice preparedness. Of course those things may sound odd and out of place, but when preparedness is put in a smaller perspective, they fit right in.

A healthy lifestyle keeps your body prepared to battle handle illness that may befall it so that it may recover faster or be more equipped to put up a fight. Daily safety habits can prevent those injuries that are common to trips, slips, and falls. Educating your child on how to interact with strangers could be the difference between your child making it home safely and abduction.

However the new year brings in a new cycle. Here are a few tips to keep us all honest in being prepared not only for the personal emergencies but for the hurricanes and fires and other hazards as well. Time is of the essence.
