Problems associated with air pollution are of concern
to all citizens. In particular, those problems involved with indoor
air and related molds, fungi, and moisture as well as other toxins detrimental
to respiratory health, are now in the public health spotlight.
The Department of Health now has an indoor air
quality section in Tallahassee, but this program is in its beginning stages
and has only a limited staff to serve the entire state. Indoor air
quality complaints should be directed to the Columbia County Health
Department, which will help in getting assistance from the
State Health Office. Please contact the Environmental Health Section at (386)
758-1058 to file a complaint or for more information about this
program.
Outdoor air pollution complaints are
usually investigated by the Department of Environmental Protection
(DEP) in Jacksonville (904-448-4300), with
the local health department often taking the initial complaint and doing a
preliminary investigation before referral to DEP.
