Septic System Program

typical septic system for a residence

Welcome to the Septic System Program information page!  The Environmental Health Section of the Columbia County Health Department issues over 1000 septic system permits every year, and we provide inspection, site evaluation, and enforcement services for the septic systems located in Columbia County.  By ensuring septic systems are adequately sized, installed, and maintained, we help protect groundwater quality and the health of the many residents in our county for whom municipal sewer service is not available.  The Septic System Program is regulated under Chapter 64E-6, Florida Administrative Code.
