Prevention and Education Program
The Gadsden County Health Department-Prevention & Education Program is
responsible for coordinating county-wide public health initiatives. The
prevention effort focuses on developing programs and strategies to promote
healthy lifestyle living throughout Gadsden County. Staff members work closely
with other community partners including public schools, universities,
faith-based institutions, community organizations, and healthcare facilities to
bridge the gap to address health disparities.
The Prevention and Education Program serves as one of the lead CHD program in
leveraging grant funding to address Gadsden County resident service needs. The
Prevention and Education Program also oversees the implementation of the County
Health Department’s National Local Public Health System, action plan,
contractual agreements and provides grant management and funding administration.
This program is funded in part by the ½ Cent Sales Tax.
Highlights of the program include:
Chat & Chew Initiative is a faith-based education program aimed at teaching
healthy eating habits through nutrition education.
Get Going Gadsden is an annual 60-day Physical Health Challenge Program
prompting county residents to get physically active
Gadsden Community Health Ambassadors Training Program (GCHA) - is a
program to train lay community members to be health educators/community advisors
within their perspective community and/or faith-based institution
Community Health and Planning Initiative - is a program to reduce risk
factors associated with chronic disease, promote wellness in children and
adults, and provide a positive, sustainable health change in communities.
Tips on Staying Healthy: A lifestyle approach program to modify
behaviors, address health disparities and other social determinants in health
