Speaker's Bureau (Community Presentations)

The Speaker’s Bureau is a tool that the Health Department / Health Center utilizes to motivate and educate clients, groups and our community to meet specific or overall health and wellness goals. To reserve speakers, please call (352) 540-6817.


Healthy Hernando TV Program

The Health Education Department offers informative programs through Brighthouse Networks government channel 622.

Diabetes Self-Management Education

The Hernando County Health Department/Nature Coast Community Health Center has partnered with Brookville Regional Hospital to provide a community diabetes education program. Classes are held over a five week period covering topics to help the person with diabetes understand their disease and learn how to control their blood sugar. The classes are instructed by staff from both facilities and offered as part of the Diabetes Rehabilitation Program at Brooksville Regional Hospital. The program is recognized as meeting the National Standards for Diabetes Education by the American Diabetes Association. For more information on this program please contact Dee West @ 352-797-4616.


Smoking Cessation Programs

Quit Smoking Now
Presented by the Gulfcoast North Area Health Education Center & Health Department /Health Center. Program includes the following:

  • 6-week program - support group style teaching you how to quit smoking
  • Education on Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) (patches, gum, lozenges, inhaler, spray), coping with withdrawal, dealing with triggers, and staying smoke free
  • Free Quit Smoking Kits & Survival pack
  • Free carbon monoxide monitoring

Freedom from Smoking®

The American Lung Association’s “Freedom from Smoking®” program is a seven-week, eight session smoking cessation class, that is being offered through the Health Education Department. For more information and to register please call (352) 540-6817. (This smoking cessation program is also available online 24 hours a day and can be accessed by visiting www.ffsonline.org)

Florida Quitline

QuitLine is a toll-free telephone-based tobacco use cessation hotline. Open to anyone age 13 and up, the QuitLine offers five pro-active counseling sessions 8 for pregnant women); self help materials; translation service for other languages; coupons for the nicotine patch; and TDD service for hearing impaired. You can give the QuitLine a try by calling (877) U-CAN-NOW - (877) 822-6669.


Child Restraint Offender Program (CROP)

CROP was established under a law passed by Florida's Legislature. CROP provides an opportunity for persons cited for improper or non use of child safety seats to attend an educational class and withhold 3 points from their driver's license. Classes are offered regularly at the Health Department / Health Center.


Breastfeeding Promotion & Support

The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program provides breastfeeding support and lactation consultation with an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Some of the services are:

Electric breast pumps are available for qualified breastfeeding mothers. The breastfeeding support staff will determine if you are qualified for services. Prenatal breastfeeding classes, lactation consultation, and manual breast pumps, are available to all WIC clients. For more information please call (352) 540-6800 ext 82040
