Behavioral Health

Currently, mental health services are available at the Nature Coast Community Health Center (NCCHC)/Health Department for Primary Care clients referred by our providers. 

Communicable Disease Treatment, Education and Prevention

Communicable Disease Treatment, Education and Prevention such as Tuberculosis (TB), Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS)and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) are preventable with precaution and education. Physical exams, testing, treatment and counseling are provided to all persons. Information is strictly confidential.

Dental

The Dental Program provides preventive, restorative, extraction, and root canal services to people ages 3 and older, who meet the economic eligibility guidelines, or who are eligible for Medicaid. Oral health presentations are available for Headstart, grade schools, and other local groups by request.

Our School-Based Sealant Program provides dental sealant services free of charge to eligible 2nd and 7th grade school children at their schools, during school hours. Dental sealants protect permanent molars from cavities.

Dental services are available by appointment only at both locations.

Diabetes Self-Management Education

The Hernando County Health Department/Nature Coast Community Health Center has partnered with Brookville Regional Hospital to provide a community diabetes education program. Classes are held over a five week period covering topics to help the person with diabetes understand their disease and learn how to control their blood sugar. The classes are instructed by staff from both facilities and offered as part of the Diabetes Rehabilitation Program at Brooksville Regional Hospital. The program is recognized as meeting the National Standards for Diabetes Education by the American Diabetes Association. For more information on this program please contact Dee West @ 352-797-4616.

Family Planning

Family Planning includes pregnancy tests, education and community resources. Information is provided on abstinence and natural family planning methods as well as providing Depo Provera, birth control pills, condoms, diaphragms and IUDS (Intrauterine Device).

Healthy Start

Healthy Start is for pregnant women or new moms with risks that could cause problems for themselves or their babies. Program focus is on lengthy pregnancies, supportive environments, family health & safety, referrals and resources for mom and baby to age 3.

Immunizations

The Hernando County Health Department offers childhood and adult immunizations at both the Spring Hill and the Brooksville locations. 

Immunizations are available at our clinics from 8:00am - 4:00pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  Both offices also offer immunizations on Thursdays from 8:00am - 11:30am.

Although walk-ins are welcome, appointments are encouraged to better serve the community.  To make an appointment, call 352-540-6800.

Prenatal Service

Provides routine medical care to non-high risk pregnant women between the ages of 15 and 35.  Services include pre- and post-partum visits and lab work.

Primary Care

Primary health care is provided to adults, infants and children making us your medical home. Services are offered based on income to all Hernando County Residents.  

The following Application Packets contain all the forms needed to complete and return in order to have your Primary Care eligibility processed. These packets aslo include documents that must be completed and returned at the same time. If they are not completed in their entirety, your application for Primary Care will not be processed. School Physicals

Available for a fee by appointment. Call (352) 540-6800 option 3.

Teen Clinic

In an effort to encourage healthy lifestyle choices these confidential walk-in clinics include information and education, counseling and referrals, pregnancy testing, condoms and birth control, STD testing and treatment, family planning exams and HIV counseling and testing.
