CHILD HEALTH

Well Baby, Well Child Care & Sick Visits

Childhood, a critical period of growth and development, requires special health care. Ensuring children receive access to basic preventive health services is a historic core public health function. Well Baby and Well Child health includes periodic physical examinations evaluation for proper growth and development, screenings for blood lead, hearing, vision and motor skills, dental services and immunizations. These services promote optimal health for newborns, infants and children up to age 18 and are available at both Health Department / Health Center locations. For more information call (352) 540-6800 x82299.

Childhood Immunizations

Immunizations delivered on schedule are essential in protecting children and stopping the spread of devastating illnesses. Immunizations and surveillance of contagious diseases are historic core public health functions. Immunizations are very effective in preventing measles, mumps, diphtheria, tetanus, hepatitis B, rubella, spinal meningitis, pertussis (whooping cough) and polio. Immunizations are available to all children free of charge and are available at both Health Department / Health Center locations. In addition, Florida law requires all children to be immunized before entering day care or school.

Dental Services

Dental exams, x-rays, cleanings, fillings, routine root canals, and routine extractions are provided at our Spring Hill, Brooksville. A cooperative agreement with Pasco-Hernando Community College provides students in Dental Hygiene and Dental Assistant programs with field experience. This working agreement increases the number of clients we are able to see and provides basic dental services to a large number of residents. Future cooperation with the University of Florida School of Dentistry will provide field experience for pre-doctoral students as well. Our clinics also serve children in Head Start and Pre-Kindergarten programs in Hernando and Citrus counties.

"Opens in New Window" Read for Health - Department of Health

The Florida Department of Health knows that the ability to read, write, and understand letters and numbers is a basic component to maintaining good health and eliminating health disparities. The Read For Health Initiative was created to educate the public and health professionals about the importance of reading to good health.
