CHILDHOOD CHECKUPS
What Is A Childhood Checkup? The childhood checkup is a health care program for children from birth to age 20. The purpose of this program is to find and treat health problems before they become more serious. This program includes regular medical checkups, immunizations, lab work, health education, developmental assessments, nutritional assessments, dental referrals, Women, Infant and Children (WIC) referrals and referrals to medical specialists if indicated. Who Is Eligible? Any child who receives Medicaid or is assigned to receive Medipass or any other Medicaid-sponsored HMO program. When Should Children Receive A Childhood Checkup? A child should be scheduled for a checkup as soon as the child is eligible. Otherwise, children should be seen at birth, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 1 year, 15 months and 18 months. Children ages 2 to 6 should be scheduled for checkups once a year. For children over age 6 once every 2 years is usually sufficient; however a parent or guardian can request a childhood checkup at any time . Where Can Eligible Children Receive A childhood Checkup? Childhood checkups are available by appointment at both the Brooksville and Spring Hill offices of the Health Department / Health Center. How Much Does A Childhood Checkup Cost? Medicaid covers the entire cost of the exam. How Does An Eligible Child Get An Appointment?
