Say “yes” to a healthy start for you and your baby!

Healthy Start provides maternal and child health services to improve pregnancy outcomes and help children get a healthy start in life. Healthy Start offers services for you when you are pregnant or between pregnancies, and for your baby from birth to age three.

Services may include education and counseling in childbirth, breastfeeding, parenting, nutrition, smoking cessation, between pregnancy care and more.

Find out if you qualify for Healthy Start services by saying “yes” to Healthy Start screenings. Every prenatal care provider in the state of Florida is required to offer a Healthy Start screening to all pregnant women. Every hospital is required to offer a Healthy Start screening to every newborn. Healthy Start screenings are simply a set of questions to determine if there are any risks that could affect your pregnancy and your baby’s growth or development.

For more information contact your Healthy Start Care Coordinator at (352) 540-6800 x82119 or call 1-800-451-BABY.

text4baby - Opens in New Window

The National Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition (HMHB) announces text4baby, a free mobile information service that provides pregnant women and new moms with information to help them care for their health and give their babies the best possible start in life.

Women who sign up for the service by texting BABY to 511411 (or BEBE for Spanish) will receive free text messages each week, timed to their due date or baby’s date of birth.  The messages focus on a variety of topics critical to maternal and child health, including birth defects prevention, immunization, nutrition, seasonal flu, mental health, oral health, and safe sleep.  Text4baby messages also connect women to prenatal and infant care services and other resources.
