HIV-RELATED SERVICES


The Health Department /Nature Coast Community Health Center offers HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) testing at no charge. It may be done Anonymous (client is given a number) or Confidential (client name is provided).

Testing is offered by appointment, call (352) 540-6800 and choose option 3 or choose 0, for the operator, to schedule your appointment.

Office hours are:

  • Brooksville -- Monday through Friday 7:30 am to 5pm.
  • Spring Hill -- Monday through Friday 7:30 am to 5pm.
  • Currently, there is neither a cure for AIDS ( Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) nor a vaccine that can prevent HIV infection. A person will develop AIDS only if he or she has been infected with HIV. By preventing HIV infection, we can prevent AIDS. Today, education and knowledge are the best ways to prevent HIV infection.


    REMEMBER

    No one is immune! Everyone shares the responsibility of protecting themselves and others from HIV infection!


    The Global HIV/AIDS Crisis Today

    • An estimated 33.2. million people worldwide are infected with HIV/AIDS.
    • In 2009, 1.8 million people died due to HIV/AIDS, and another 2.6 million were newly infected.
    • Worlwide, 2.5 million children under 15 are living with HIV/AIDS, and 370,000 were newly infected in 2009

    • Florida ranks third in the nation in the number of AIDS cases.
    • At the end of 2008, 92,738 adults in Florida were living with HIV/AIDS.
    • Blacks comprise 15% of Florida's population , but represent over half (53%) of 4,944 AIDS cases and 45% of 7,503 HIV cases reported in 2008.
