PANDEMIC FLU
Pandemic Flu Pandemic Flu is a global disease outbreak. A flu pandemic occurs when a new influenza virus emerges for which people have little or no immunity, and for which there is no vaccine. The disease spreads easily person-to-person, causes serious illness, and can sweep across the country and around the world in very short time. A pandemic can be prolonged and require temporary changes in many areas of society, such as schools, work, transportation and other public services. An informed and prepared public is essential to minimizing the health effects of a pandemic and the resulting consequences to society. As you plan, it is important to think about the challenges that you might face, particularly if a pandemic is severe. Much information has been prepared by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help guide planning and preparation for your family, schools, businesses and communities.
