Group Care Facilities
This program includes both residential and non-residential facilities. Examples of residential facilities include, but are not limited to, assisted living facilities, foster homes, hospice, group homes, and mental health facilities. Non-residential facilities include public schools, and private schools.
The Department of Health has responsibilities in the enforcement of laws, rules, and regulations regarding the sanitation, safety, hygiene, and control of communicable diseases at these facilities. Inspection and approval of these facilities is a prerequisite for another state agency to grant an operating license or license renewal. Group care facilities are regulated and licensed by state agencies such as the:

Department of Children and Families
Agency for Health Care Administration
Department of Education
Department of Elder Affairs
