School Services

School Health Services promote health through prevention, early intervention, and treatment of referral for acute or chronic health problems.

What kinds of services do students need during the school day?

School health staff provide services to a steady flow of students in the school health room for any number of reasons, including:

Cuts and bruises Asthma
Head lice High blood pressure
Skin rashes Nosebleeds
Colds Test anxiety
Headaches Hearing
Toothaches Vision
Personal problems Scoliosis screenings
Sore throats Referrals
Family problems Parent consultations
Stomach aches

The school health staff of Jefferson County is comprised of one Registered Nurse, one Licensed Practical nurse and three Health Support Technicians with over 75 years of combined service.  School health services are vital to schools because children spend over one-third of their day at school.  Without school health services children with minor problems would not be able to come to school.

School health staff are children advocates who promote wellness, lifestyles changes, and health education.
