Cancer is the number one cause of death in Levy County followed closely by heart disease. Levy County Health Department is working with the Florida Department of Health to reduce death and disability related to cancer, heart and other chronic diseases. Levy County ranks 65th out of 67 Florida counties based on the percent of premature deaths and 63rd based on self reported physical health. Levy County ranks 42 for the percentage of residents who engage in risky health behaviors like smoking. The Levy County Health Department hopes to make a difference. The Levy County Health Department helps keep our community healthy by:

• Increasing the availability of tobacco prevention and cessation education opportunities in schools and work sites
• Working with school health advisory committee to improve the health of school children
