Epidemiology
The Epidemiology and Surveillance Program works to prevent, seek out, monitor and control disease outbreaks and epidemics in the community. Testing for various bacteria, waterborne diseases and parasites can be provided by the Epidemiology division upon request of physicians. Reports of communicable diseases are investigated by this division to evaluate sources and to suggest methods of control. Disease outbreaks are monitored and sources are tracked. Inspections are made at institutions after reports of possible illness. Information regarding control of communicable disease is made available to the public. Staff actively participates with community agencies and schools by assisting with educational needs and providing intervention for those at-risk. They consult with local clinics, local hospitals, infection control practitioners and private physicians for early detection of communicable diseases. The Epidemiology program provides educational lectures on Confidentiality and Information Security, Safety and Loss Prevention, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Bloodborne Pathogens, Biomedical Waste (BMW) Policy, Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Communicable Diseases as needed to staff.
