HIV & AIDS
Mobile Medical Unit Testing Schedule The HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) was first identified in 1981 in New York, but quickly became the worldwide epidemic it is today. Estimates suggest there are nearly 40 million people infected with HIV/AIDS worldwide, and nearly 1 out of 5 of those infected don?t even know it! Florida is currently ranked #3 for HIV/AIDS infections out of the 50 states, and it is estimated that over 33% of those newly infected in Florida are under the age of 30. As Floridians, we must increase our efforts to protect ourselves and our communities from avoidable risks. The Manatee County Health Department is working to prevent HIV/AIDS by empowering and educating the public. We provide free HIV, STD, and pregnancy testing on our mobile medical unit (featured below in photo) and we are always looking for new testing locations. HIV results are available in 20 minutes! If your facility, school, or place of business is interested in setting up a testing event/day, please contact us at (941) 748-0747 Ext. 1432. HIV, STD, and pregnancy testing is also available at the Health Department in Clinic 3. In addition to testing, we also provide free condoms to the community (available on our mobile medical unit or at the Health Department) and provide classes and workshops on HIV/AIDS and other STD?s. If your facility, school, or place of business is interested in setting up a class/workshop, please contact us at All Clinical Services are closed on the 3rd Wednesday
afternoon of each month
from 1:00pm till 5:00pm due to Staff Meeting and In-Service Training. (941) 748-0747 Ext. 1432 HIV is transmitted through blood, semen, vaginal secretions, and/or breast milk. You can NOT get HIV by coming into contact with tears, urine, sweat, feces, vomit, or saliva (unless they also contain blood and you have an open wound). Preventing HIV infection requires either celibacy/abstinence or use of condoms. There is no vaccine available to prevent HIV, and although advances in science are promising hope to HIV positive people, there is still no cure for HIV/AIDS. We are here to help you protect yourself and stay informed about HIV/AIDS ? please stay safe!
