Medicine Room
The "Medicine Room" at the Manatee County Health Department (MCHD) supports all clinics by ordering pharmaceuticals, keeping a running inventory, keeping clinics supplied with the medicines they routinely use, and giving prescription drugs to certain program clients.
Program prescription drugs include those for AIDS Drug Assistance Program
(ADAP
) clients, Epileptics, and Tuberculosis clients. These prescriptions are filled by
the pharmacist in the State Central Pharmacy and sent to the MCHD in a sealed bag with
the client's name on the outside. The Medicine Room gives these filled prescriptions to
the client and answers any questions they might have.
Two medication programs are available to low income individuals who meet the financial criteria. Epilepsy medication is available to individuals with income at or below 110% of the poverty level. Insulin is available to individuals with income at or below 100% of the poverty level. Clients that meet the income eligibility can obtain these medications at no cost.
