School Health
School Health Services are provided as part of the School Health Program to appraise, protect, and promote the health status of students in public and eligible non-public schools. School Health Services supplement, rather than replace, parental responsibility to student health. The program is designed to encourage parental awareness of students' health status; discover and prevent health problems; and encourage utilization of physicians, dentists, and community health agency services.
Services include: nursing assessment, dental, vision, hearing, hypertension, and scoliosis screening; identification of health problems with referral to community resources; follow-up on all abnormal results; administration of prescribed medications, nursing care for medically complex children; home visits to assist families as needed; speakers and health programs in the classroom setting as well as the community; and assistance with communicable disease investigation and control.

Volunteer School Nurse Program
The Manatee County School Health program is looking for Nurses to Volunteer in various school settings. If you are a licensed RN, LPN, or you currently do not have an active nursing license, but enjoy working with school age children, WE NEED YOUR EXPERTISE.
Ways you can assist: Health education, nursing assessments, immunizations, staff wellness, first aid, nursing procedures, health screenings, and being a positive role model.
Volunteering in this special program is appealing to caregivers, because we offer the following:
o Protected by Sovereign Immunity.
o Waiver of biennial license renewal fee.
o Protected by Workman's Compensation.
o You are rewarded by interacting with school aged children and have the satisfaction of Knowing YOU HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIFE OF A CHILD
