mobile home parks, swimming pools, tanning beds, rabies investigations and sanitary nuisances.
Water
Chemical testing may be arranged through the state lab in Jacksonville.
Plan reviews for permitted limited use commercial wells are arranged by appointment. (622-7744).

Onsite Sewage Treatment and Disposal System
Permits for new construction, repair or modification of septic systems must be applied for
at the office of the Marion County Health Department in Ocala. For more information
please call 622-7744.
Inspections are usually completed within 2 to 3 working days.
Soil logs are completed within 30 days.
We license and regulate septic contractors, pump truck companies, lime stabilization facilities and septic tank
manufacturers.
Institutions
Plan reviews for permitted food service, mobile home parks, camps, tanning beds, and
swimming pools are arranged by appointment (622-7744).
Requests for health and
safety inspections of schools, foster homes, ALF homes and
group homes can be arranged by appointment (622-7744).
Animal Rabies Investigations
Animal control, medical establishments and private individuals make referrals for
Rabies exposure. If you have been bitten, call 622-7744.
Animals are generally quarantined for ten (10) days.
Our investigators, in conjunction with the nursing department, will determine if rabies shots will be given to the victim.
Active rabies alert(s). Issued after laboratory confirmation of rabid animal.
Our office (622-7744) sometimes handles complaints about sanitary nuisances.
Complaints beyond our jurisdiction will be referred to the proper agency.
Freshwater Bathing Beach Survey
The Marion County Health Department initiated the Freshwater Bathing Beach Survey in 2004
to test twenty-four permitted bathing places during the summer months. During the survey, the locations
are checked for cleanliness, proper restroom supplies, and enterococcus bacteria levels. Starting in
2006, the Marion County Health Department Water Laboratory analyzed the water samples from
each of the remaining permitted bathing places.

In collaboration with the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, the Florida Environmental
