County Health Department 

     

    Pasco County Health Department Services for Diabetes:
  • The Pasco County Health Department offers classes in 
    New Port Richey, Hudson, Land O’ Lakes and Dade City.
  • Both the “Basic class” and “Self Management of Diabetes” take lesson plans from “Type 2 Diabetes,
    A series of Teaching Outlines by Michigan Diabetes Research and Training Center”
  • The “Basic Class” is for newly diagnoses diabetics. It is an orientation to diabetes with time to share
     with others in order to better understand and cope with the diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes. Classes are on going.
  • “Self Management of Diabetes” is for students who have not taken a diabetes course and want to improve their management and understanding of diet, exercise and medication will the ultimate goal of prevent complications and improving health. It is a full day class. Four classes are offer a year. These classes are taught by Public Health Nutritionist, RD, CDE.
  • Classes in Spanish are held once a year in Dade City.
  • All classes are free and open to the public.

Type 2 Diabetes Classes “Basics of Diabetes”
 
Recently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes?  Learn the basics of diabetes.  
The Pasco County Health Department will hold two basic classes:
  • Monday, February 7, from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm at 10841 Little Road, New Port Richey
  • Tuesday, February 8, from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm at 4135 Land O’Lakes Blvd., Land O’Lakes.
    • Type 2 Diabetes Classes “Self Management of Diabetes” 
    Ready for a full day of Diabetes Self Management?  Classes on Self Management of Type 2 Diabetes will be held:
     
  • Monday, February 14, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at LandO’Lakes Community Center, 5401 LandO'Lakes Blvd.  LandO’Lakes 

  • Tuesday, March 8, at the Pasco County Health Department 13941 15th Street, Dade City.  

  • All classes are free and open to the public.

    Dealing with Diabetes

      - A five-week course in diabetes self-management

    Time:  5:30pm - 8:00 pm

    Dates:   Tuesday, January 20th & 27th, February 3rd, 10th & 17th.

    Place:     Trinity Outpatient Center
                    2102 Trinity Oaks Blvd.
                    New Port Richey, FL

     

    Class leaders include Registered Dietitian, Certified Diabetes Educator, Pharmacist, and Health Educator.  Topics include Mastering Food Labels, Carbohydrate Counting, Physical Activity, Stress Reduction, Self-Esteem Building, and Inside Knowledge from a Grocery Store Produce Manager.
