It is with immense pride that I serve, and address the public health concerns of the residents of St. Johns County, Florida.
As our Senior Leaders began the Strategic Planning cycle earlier this year, we reviewed statewide priorities from Governor Rick Scott. Challenged by our new Governor, we will do everything in our power to reduce the cost of government while assisting in his efforts to bring jobs to Florida.
Throughout the Strategic Planning cycle, careful consideration was also given to national health objectives – Healthy People 2020
- health promotion and disease prevention, and to community priorities identified in the 2011 Community Health Assessment for St. Johns County, Florida. By working with our key community partners in both the public and private sector, we will continue to spearhead efforts to keep our community as one of the healthiest in Florida and among the healthiest in the nation.
When I began my tenure here in 2004, emphasizing the core values of respect, loyalty, trust, accountability and compassion, and adherence to the strictest of ethical standards, St. Johns County Health Department embarked on a Journey of Continuous Quality Improvement, embracing the Baldrige / Sterling Management Model to pursue Organizational Performance Excellence. The national Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence provide a framework for our Agency to ensure fiscal sustainability through improved efficiencies, via continuous performance improvement. I am pleased to share that SJCHD is a recipient of the 2009 Governor’s Sterling Award, and also the 2011 Governor’s Sterling Sustained Performance Excellence Award.
None of this would be possible if it were not for the commitment and dedication of my staff, Florida’s Best, in your Center of Excellence in Public Health!
Dawn C. Allicock, M.D., M.P.H, C.P.H.
Director / Health Officer
