After 30 years, the WIC food packages was improved to better meet the nutritional needs of WIC participants and align with the most recent Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the infant feeding practice guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Since October 2009, more food choices have been available with the food packages for WIC participants, including whole grains and fruits and vegetables.
Food packages typically include:
- Low fat milk
- Cheese
- Eggs
- Juice
- Cereal
- Whole grains
- Peanut butter
- Beans
- Fruits and Vegetables
Depending on your situation, canned tuna or salmon and additional amounts of the above foods may also be available.
Additionally, the new WIC food packages promote and support the establishment of successful and long-term breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is the best choice for every baby. However, when breastfeeding does not prove to be the best choice for mom, infant formula can be provided. The Gerber Good Start infant formulas (Gentle Plus, Soy Plus, and Protect Plus) are the only type of formulas Florida WIC typically provides.
What stores can I use my WIC checks at?
