Welcome to the Healthy Start Service Center!
Healthy Start is a voluntary program designed to insure that pregnant women and young children ages 0-3 years have access to health care and other services that will promote healthy outcomes.
The Healthy Start Program of the St. Johns County Health Department serves the residents of St. Johns County and is administered through the Healthy Start Coalition of North East Florida.
The Healthy Start Program was signed into law on June 4, 1991 by the Florida State Legislature.
All pregnant women in the State of Florida should be offered the Healthy Start Prenatal Risk Screening at their first prenatal visit and the Healthy Start Infant Risk Screening before they leave the hospital or birthing center. These screenings will help determine what services a mother and her baby may need. Clients are also referred to other Community agencies and can self refer if the services are needed. If you are pregnant and/or have a child birth to age 3, feel free to call us!

Appointments also available.
- ANY pregnant woman and/or infant under the age of 3 year.
- They must be a resident of St. Johns County.
- There are NO income requirements.
- Home visits can be provided by a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or a Family Support Worker.
- Provides education and information about having a healthy pregnancy, a healthy baby, and future healthy pregnancies.
- Provides the following services & support:
- Smoking cessation counseling
- Parenting education
- Breastfeeding education
- Inter-conceptional education & counseling for future healthy pregnancies
- Referrals to childbirth classes
- Providing care coordination and referrals to other agencies, as needed.

WIC is a federally-funded public health nutrition program for pregnant, breastfeeding, and post-partum women, infants, and children up to five years of age. WIC provides nutrition education and counseling, healthy foods, and breastfeeding support at no cost to participants.
Healthy Families Florida provides free home visiting services to parents expecting a baby and parents of newborns.
