After exploring a number of funding sources, including grants, the Public Health Mobile Center was purchased through sound fiscal and strategic planning through a general funding source. It was understood that the acquisition of a Mobile Health Center would offer services to residents in their own neighborhoods and also give SJCHD mobile command center capabilities for health related emergencies and disasters. The need to reach out to the underserved communities in St. Johns County was too important in the provision of Public Health services to not dedicate the necessary funds to purchase the Public Health Mobile Center.

The Public Health Mobile Center increases the capacity of St. Johns County Health Department in three main ways:

• To allow the Health Department to provide increased community access through targeted outreach to needed health services such as pediatric care, dental screenings, immunizations, health education and counseling, as well as linking underserved residents to available health resources.
• To eventually allow the Health Department to offer expanded hours for targeted outreach services.
• To allow the Health Department to respond quickly and appropriately in the event of a natural or manmade disaster.
