Car Seat Program:
Participants are required to attend a class at the local health department on car seat safety. It has been estimated that 9 out of 10 car seats are used incorrectly. The goal of our class is to educate participants on how to properly install their seat, how to properly secure their child in the seat, and on the hazard that air bags present to children and as a result lowering this ratio. The class instructor is a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. Please call the clinic for fees and class schedule.
An additional service provided from time to time by the Sumter CHD is car seat checkpoints. These checkpoints are set up around the county as need becomes evident. During these events parents, guardians, grandparents are encouraged to come and get their current car seat inspected for proper use, recalls and proper fit with both vehicle and child by a Child Passenger Safety Technician.
To pre-register for a Car Seat Safety Class or for more information on an upcoming Checkpoint call 352-793-2701.
