Immunization Services
Immunizations are provided at no charge for children 18 years of age or younger at the Sumter County Health Department through the Vaccines for Children Program. People over the age of 18 may also receive vaccines at the Sumter County Health Department for a fee. Adult vaccines available at a cost to the client include Tetanus (Td) booster, MMR, flu, pneumonia, and Hepatitis A and B vaccine.
Immunizations are given according to the CDC/ACIP recommendations published yearly beginning with children at age 2 months. Recommended vaccines for children are Diptheria/Tetanus/Pertussis, Polio, Measles/Mumps/Rubella, Hepatitis B, Haemophilus influenza type B, Pneumococcal conjugate, and Varicella (chickenpox). Children in childcare or preschool are required to show proof that immunizations are up to date for age as indicated in the state immunization guidelines in order to enter and remain in school/childcare facilities.
Children entering grades K-12 are also required to show proof of immunizations as indicated in the state immunization guidelines. View immunization record requirements
