Communicable diseases or conditions are transmitted from person to person. This places the entire community at risk. When a communicable disease is suspected, the Department of Health is the first agency to be contacted.
The epidemiology department at the Suwannee County Health Department investigates and monitors communicable diseases in the county. Our epidemiology nurse is trained to assess, evaluate and monitor communicable disease reports to help prevent epidemics. This protects individuals, families and the community from disease outbreaks.
Tuberculosis is a disease caused by germs that are spread from person to person through the air. The germs are spread in the air when a person with active TB coughs, sneezes, talks or sings. TB testing and treatment is available at the Suwannee County Health Department.
