Health Communities, Healthy People


Heart disease, cancer, lung disease, stroke and diabetes area among the leading causes of death in Suwannee County. They are also among the most preventable.

The goal of the Healthy Communities, Healthy People program in the Suwannee County Health Department is to educate residents on ways to adopt healthy behaviors such as eating nutritious foods, controlling portion sizes, being physically active, and avoiding tobacco use to prevent or control the devastating effects of chronic diseases.

The program coordinator is available to collaborate with county agencies, governmental bodies, businesses, schools and individuals to create environmental and policy changes for healthy lifestyles. Free information and guidance on implementing a Worksite Wellness Program at your business is also available.
