On Monday, October 17, 2011, the Brevard County Health Department received confirmation of a raccoon positive for rabies located at Hereford Road; Melbourne, Florida.

Director of Health Department Receives Resolution from Brevard County Board of County Commissioners (April 20, 2011)
The Brevard County Board of County Commissioners awarded Heidar Heshmati, M.D., Director of Brevard County Health Department with a Resolution in recognition for the Brevard County Health Department being a recipient of the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) for its outstanding role and innovative programs for 2011. The countywide Comprehensive Sexual Assault Examination Response Clinic and the Primary Access to Health (PATH) Clinic were recognized for outstanding contributions in local public health practice.

The Brevard County Health Department received two certificate program awards for 2011 as "Promising Practice" from the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) for its outstanding role and innovative programs. The county-wide Comprehensive Sexual Assault Examination Response Clinic and the Primary Access to Health (PATH) Clinic were recognized for outstanding contributions in local public health practice.

New website launched for STD Awareness (September 13, 2010)

The Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Prevention and Control has a new web automated human interaction (wahi) internet site called Florida’s Access to Comprehensive Education using Internet Technology—FACE IT for short. Each of Florida’s 67 counties will have access to screening and educational events.
