National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day:

Get Educated! Get Tested! Get Treated! Get Involved!

Collier:  AIDS is the leading cause of death for Black adults ages 25 to 44 in the United States.  40% of all US HIV/AIDS cases in adults, senior citizens, and children are among Blacks. As of 2011, 1,509 residents of Collier County have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, and 42% of these men, women, and children are Blacks.

 

On Feb. 7, 2012, Collier County will respond to the impact of HIV and AIDS on our Black communities in observance of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD). NBHAAD is a nationwide mobilization effort designed to encourage Black Americans across the US to get educated, get tested, get treated, and get involved with HIV/AIDS, as it continues to devastate Black communities.

 

For this reason, the Collier County Health Department and its community partners are proud to sponsor the following events honoring National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day:
