The vision of the Florida Refugee Health Program (RHP) is to
be a leader in providing culturally sensitive health services to persons who
have fled their home country due to persecution (political, religious, or
economic) in search for a better life and self-sufficiency in America.
Within this vision is the protection of public health from communicable
disease through the review of overseas medical examination records
and the provision of health screenings and immunizations.
The Refugee Health Program provides, through federal
funding from the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement, a health assessment
and immunization services for the following groups
of individuals:
refugees, asylees, Cuban/Haitian asylum applicants, Cuban/Haitian entrants
(including parolees), Amerasians, and certain victims of severe forms of
human trafficking. As recipients of federal
funds, county health departments are required to ensure that
persons with limited English proficiency (LEP) receive equal
access to services. Trained interpreters and translators
are required in the delivery of services to limited English
proficient persons, with many cost effective telephonic
interpretation services available. For additional information,
please see the Department of Health and Human Services' Policy
Guidance: Title VI Prohibition Against National Origin
Discrimination As It Affects Persons With Limited English
Proficiency, available at the following link:
