Overview

The Lead Alert Network has a general and specific mission. The specific mission is to provide warning to our lead poisoning prevention partners about consumer products that have been recalled due to their lead content. The general mission is to protect all children in Florida from lead hazards, and promote public health services that will prevent the exposure to lead contaminants.

The lead alerts, warnings, recommendations, and other information is transmitted by e-mail or fax to the Healthy Homes and Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (HHLPPP) by various agencies, including the Food and Drug Administration, the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The other partners of Florida's Lead Alert Network are then notified by the FL HHLPPP of the recalled product(s) via email. Participants in Florida then forward the information to local partners who work directly with children and families.

The Lead Alert Network partners include: Florida's County Health Departments, The Community Services Block Grant Program, the Weatherization Assistance Program, the Community Development Block Grant Program, The School Nutrition Program, The School Health Program, and the Florida Healthy Homes Consortium.

Overall, we seek to expand our network to ensure more families receive information on lead in consumer products. To receive lead alert e-mail notices please join Florida's Lead Alert Network by sending an email request above.
