Below are frequently asked questions and answers.

I don't feel well. How can I see a healthcare professional?
If you have a medical emergency, contact 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. Otherwise, contact the health department nearest you for treatment or a referral to treatment.

I have run out of my medicine. How can I get more?
If you need to refill a current, medically necessary prescription, we can help. If you have previously received your prescription drugs from one of the pharmacies listed below, please go to the nearest location for a one-time, 30-day refill:

  • CVS Pharmacy
  • Walgreen’s Pharmacy
  • Wal-Mart Pharmacy
If your prescription is filled by another pharmacy, contact your health department for assistance. This program does not replace private insurance or Medicaid.

What do I need to enroll my child in school?
Your health department can help with immunizations and school entry health exam requirements. Currently, public schools are waiving both requirements for 60 days. School nurses can work with you individually to meet your child’s needs before the waiver ends.

My child has special medical needs. Where can I find these services?
The Florida Department of Health offers many services for children with special medical needs. Contact your nearest health department for information about our Children's Medical Services. If your child needs special health care at school, please meet with the school nurse as soon as possible to develop a plan of care.

I am living in temporary housing and am concerned about sanitary conditions.
Your health department can provide information and address your concerns about these issues.

I received WIC help before the storm. Can I get WIC services in Florida?
Call the WIC statewide toll-free number at 1-800-342-3556, or your health department, to receive WIC benefits.

How can I get a copy of my birth certificate?
Every county health department in Florida has a vital statistics office that can issue birth and death records for events that occurred in Florida. Vital Statistics staff will assist you with any special needs you have when ordering a vital record, even if it is for another state and you have no identification with you.
