The Department of Health (DOH) continually uses data to drive
organizational performance improvement efforts, in order to
effectively achieve its mission – to protect, promote, and improve
the health of all people in Florida.
DOH is a large, complex, and
centralized organization, with 67 local County Health Departments (CHDs),
and programmatic field offices, and the state health office in
Florida's capital city, Tallahassee. The department has a
responsibility to the people of Florida to efficiently use the resources
we are allocated and establish
partnerships within the public health system, to effectively meet the needs of those we serve. The
department's commitment to excellence is demonstrated by a willingness to
improve our organization's performance.
The Office of Performance
Improvement has developed and implemented an improvement
framework that can be used by the organization, as well as
each entity within the organization, to improve performance.
DOH 5-Step Performance Improvement
Process is currently being utilized by the
department's 67 county health departments to improve health
and business outcomes. Beginning in 2011, the state health
department's central office programs will do the same. The
collective performance results from both the CHDs and central
office programs, along with health and organizational data
from external sources (e.g.,
America's Health Rankings,
National Public Health Performance Standards),
will provide a picture of the department's overall performance
results. These results can then be analyzed and prioritized,
and high-level plans designed to impact organizational
priorities and improve the department's efficiency and
effectiveness in meeting its mission.
