Application and License Requirements
The department shall license each applicant who the board certifies meets the requirements outlined in the Licensure Requirements document.
If you are licensed in another state, territory, or jurisdiction of the United States, you must have the license verification form sent directly to the board office from that office that issued the license or certification.
If an applicant fails to complete the application within 12 months of its receipt in the Board office, he or she shall be required to apply again as an initial applicant.Continuing Education: Click here for information regarding continuing education requirements for initial licensure. It is also strongly recommended that you review all of the laws and rules regulating this profession.
Exam: Once the Board determines your eligibility for the examination, you will be e-mailed the International Hearing Society’s (IHS) instructions to apply for the International Licensing Examination for Hearing Healthcare Professionals, which is administered by the International Hearing Society.
The examination fee is $195.00 and should be mailed to ILE with your completed ILE application. As of July 2013 with the administration of the new computer based test, the vendor has increased the examination fee to $225.00.
The International Licensing Examination for Hearing Healthcare Professionals tests competency in ten areas: 1) Observe Proper Sanitary Procedures; 2) Perform Hearing Evaluation; 3) Select Appropriate Amplification for the Patient/Client; 4) Perform Accurate and Safe Earmold Impressions; 5) Fit and Dispense Hearing Instruments; 6) Perform Validation and Verification of Hearing Instrument Fittings; 7) Provide Counseling Regarding Living with Hearing Loss; 8) Provide Aural Rehabilitation; 9) Provide Post-Fitting Patient/Client and Hearing Instrument Care; and 10) Investigate Patient’s/Client’s Perceived Problems with Hearing Instruments and Take Appropriate Action.
