For Initial Licensure
Continuing education (CE) is required to obtain initial licensure. Anyone seeking licensure in Florida is required to complete two hours on the prevention of medical errors. An application for licensure remains incomplete without proof of completion.

Licensees initially licensed in the second year of the biennium (June 1 even year through May 31 of odd year) are exempt from the CE requirements for renewal with the exception of:
- Two (2) hour course relating to prevention of medical errors
- Three (3) hours HIV/AIDS
Licensees initially licensed in the first year of the biennium (June 1 odd year through May 31 of even) must complete 30 hours of approved CE, which includes the following mandatory CE:
- Two (2) hour course relating to prevention of medical errors
- Three (3) hours HIV/AIDS
For Renewal of License Following Your First Biennium
Every licensee must complete 30 hours of approved continuing education (CE) within the two year licensure period (biennium), which includes the following mandatory CE:
- Two (2) hours on the prevention of medical errors
Helpful Information
- Up to 20 hours of continuing education may be obtained through home study
- HIV/AIDS education is only required for your first renewal
- You may not obtain more than 10 hours of education in management, risk management, personal growth, and educational techniques.
- You can locate continuing education courses at CE Broker, the Department of Health continuing education tracking database. (www.CEBroker.com)
- It is the licensee’s responsibility to ensure that continuing education has appropriate approval as outlined in the profession’s rules.
- Licensees retain certificates of attendance for a minimum of four years, in the event of a continuing education audit. Many licensees use the continuing education tracking system, CE Broker. (www.CEBroker.com)
