Local Public Health System Assessment Exercise Directions

The Local Public Health System Assessment –LPHSA, is a broad assessment, involving all the organizations and entities that contribute to public health in the community. The local public health system assessment answers the questions “What are the components, activities, competencies, and capacities of our local public health system?” and “How are the Essential Services being provided to our community?”

When looking at LPHSA results, put the results into the context of health issues,

communicating in terms the community can understand, using tangible examples.

Ask:

“How has strong performance helped us?”

“How has weak performance hurt us?’

Look at strategic planning priorities and ask:

“At what must we excel to achieve our goals?”

“Do these results look right?”, “What are the underlying causes of this result?”

For example -political climate, skills and experience of providers)

“Is it necessary to shift resources?”

Should resources be shifted from high performing areas?
