A brief background on Women's Health in Florida.....
In 2004, Florida passed legislation establishing the Department of Health Officer of Women's Health Strategy with the charge to direct public policy to address the distinct health needs of women across the life span. On September 1, 2011, the Women's Health Program within the Department of Health was eliminated and its key activities were absorbed by other programs within the Department. This action was part of the Department's implementation of House Bill 5311.
Key activities:
-
Establish Office of Women's Health Strategy
-
Interagency Workgroup
-
Assess Health Status
-
Collect and review data
-
Develop a statewide women's health plan
-
Promote Public awareness
-
Coordinate a Statewide Governor's Conference
-
Develop a website
-
Provide annual report to Governor
The law also specifies that an Officer of Women's Health Strategy chairs the Interagency Committee on Women's Health and oversees the work outlined in F.S. 381.04015. This committee is charged with other tasks as well that are outlined in the legislation, including coordinating a Governor's statewide conference on women's health.
