As the weather gets warmer, many people in our community will seek relief in water, whether that’s a swimming pool, theme park, or a natural body of water like one of our many nearby springs or lakes. Since May is National Water Safety Month, DOH-Marion strongly encourages parents to get swimming lessons for their children who don’t know how to swim.

Between 2013 and 2022, the most recent year for which data is available, 18 children died in Marion County because of an accidental drowning. Of those, 15 were aged 4 or younger. Don’t wait till it’s too late. To learn more about where to get swimming lessons, click the link below.
